Our ABI (A&B) windlass of unkown age and model number has given out. Has anyone taken one of these apart and rebuilt or worked on it? It is an electric windlass and we had the motor rebuilt in San Diego, California. Things were fine for about 2 weeks and then the motor burned up again. We are currently in Mexico. At this point, we would like to take the windlass itself apart and see if we can overhaul it. Any guidance from someone who has dealt with an old ABI windlass would be much appreciated. The captain has been setting and raising the anchor by hand for the past two months!!
