Hello

I was wondeing if someone could point me in the right direction ?

On the river near me there are three moorings one of the boats on these is laying VERY low in the water covered in mold and the paint is peeling .

It seems as if this boat has been abandond and i was wondering how i go about finding the owner if possible. if the owner cannot be found is there anything i can do to legally buy this boat as it would be a shame to let her rot .

Thanks

As no one else has replied, I'll attempt an answer for you;
Most rivers are controlled by some sort of 'Authority' and they would licence most craft and have a register of those as well as moorings - I would be surprised if there is anywhere in the UK where you can play at boats without incurring some red tape.
If you can find out the name of the authority, you're almost there, always assuming the boat has a name to identify it.
Best of luck with your find but do examine it with your eyes open and not through rose coloured spectacles

Cutting a long story short and a similar situation.

I rang a local authority requesting the mooring map of the area as I was not sure if my Mooring had moved. The map had the authority mooring number on it. I visualised which mooring number related to the boat I was interested in. They would not give the information about the current owner of that particular mooring. I rang back later claiming it was mine and wanted to check that my address and phone details were correct and up to date, which they volunteered. I thanked them and called the owner, I purchased the boat for a tray of beer.
Naughty but Nice!

Just a word of caution - ISTR that certain debts follow the boat. You may be buying overdue British Waterways licence fees (inland, obviously!), mooring charges, etc. I think that this can lead to the situation where the boat is genuinely worthless.

I would welcome any clarification of this.
