Aaah .. I hate that yacht racing background \'music\' !

Was watching some racing from Valencia on BBC World this morning. It was totally spoilt for me by dreadful repetitive ugly background music. I switched off in the end as it annoyed me so much.

Most sailing programs on TV seem to have this same thing. Why on earth do they do it? I'm sure I'm not the only one who gets irritated by it and turns off.

I haven't noticed them doing this in other sports, so why sailing, where the natural noises are part of the attraction?

I have a similar problem with Rugby Union and the little englander commentators. Bring back Bill McLaren or someone who can describe the game without being a rabid supporter of just one team.

My main reason for not watching these programs, however exhiliarating the actual footage is. Many people not familiar with racing sailing think of it as a quiet, laid-back sport; so program makers compensate this image by tacking on upbeat muzak.

One man's poison etc. I hated Bill McLaren and his repeated phrases such as "they're be dancing in the streets of ...." but would have enjoyed his commentary on the Italy game two weeks ago. Where would they have been dancing?

Other pet hates in background music. 'Theme for the Common Man' at every Olympic event and that Fleetwood Mac piece (...In the Shadows??) that is played on every prog with racing cars. (disclaimer: Love Fleetwood Mac but you can get too much of a good thing!)

I had that problem today in the Wales - Italy game. Welsh commentators could only see good in red and bad in blue.

BTW, have nothing against the Welsh in General, just their bloody Rugby commentators.

So they turn off the people who'd like to watch it in order to try to attract people who are probably not interested.

Anyone from Rolex out there? Their sponsored sailing programmes are among the worst offenders.
