Took Shikara out today. Lovely to see the robos so cold, but at least they were out too.

A few notable points:

- encountered a sunken boat (19 foot speedboat) and will call the EA about it tomorrow. I think I know where it is from, the last time I saw the boat it was on a lawn... suspect they didn't tie her down when the river rose.
- SWMBO disagrees with the fumes off the new Webasto. I think I need to run it as it is OLD and not used during our time of having the boat. Vatican smoke outside but fumes inside. Does anyone have any experience?
- SWMBO scared me by jumping rather than stepping onto the platform. Nearly slipped... I need to have a subtle chat. I messed up the approach, so it is my problem to get the boat in the right place.

Running the Webasto is worth a try, eventually when it has burnt all the rust and oily crud away, it might come good.....or it might need a service.

Sounds like you have a goodun . Most Ladies i have on board would just look at me and say " I aint jumping cause you cant drive the boat " /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I have a golden rule on my boat which all are told when they step on board.
Jumping off is forbidden. Its up to me to make sure they can step off safely.

My first post on the Thames forum - (I dunno what I'm doing on here when my boat is in the West Country and also has flappy white things above deck) - but my view on Eberspacher/Webasto heaters is that they can be dangerous (Carbon Monoxide poisoining) if poorly maintained so it's never worth taking a risk with what you consider might be a "dodgy" unit. If you feel completely confident to overhaul the unit yourself then fair enough. crack on, but if you have any doubt at all get the professionals in and grin and bear the cost. For the sake of £250 for a service or even £2k for a new unit that's bu**er all cost compared to someone being killed by a faulty heater.

This summer I went to catch a line from a yachct coming in to berth and was horrified to see the female crew leap from the boat to the jetty wearing flip-flops!!

That's a new one on me. I have heard them called Jugs, Boobs, Knockers and Bristols but never flip-flops.

I think it's an age thing

It must be an age thing I've never heard flip flops called boobs or jugs before /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thank you. I have just had the unit serviced by Reading Marine. The fumes seem to be coming off the outside of the exhaust pipe, perhaps buring something off. I'll let the unit run for a while and see if it clears up. I'll get a carbon monoxide warning device too.
