Not for me, but for this young woman:-

I don't know what 'Guppy' is, but I can't help thinking that 26', even if it's a Contessa, is going to be too slow and too small to stow the necessary water and provisions, yet an Open 50 (ala Mike Perham) might be too big for a 13 year old girl to handle.

I am sure that we can discus the whys and wherefores of the voyage and Dutch childcare elsewhere, for the purposes of this thread, lets please stick to the boat.

A bloke called Fred Rebble sailed round the world alone before the war in a 16' dinghy.Making a sextant for himself using a hacksaw blade to mark out the graduations so lets put this whole thing into perspective.I think we should give credit where credit is due & many of our modern day hero's are just imitators.
Sorry if this upsets some people.

Tanya Aebi did it in a Contessa 26 at age 18.

Edit - there were two replies up when I started typing this originally!

I am not for one minute suggesting that, for example, a Contessa 26 is unsuitable, but surely that does not make it the best boat to do it in? The challenge is hard enough without making it unnecessarilly difficult out of some machismo.

Something with a pilothouse, about 32/34ft length. example

Didn't Moitessier reckon his boat was too big and RKJ's a better length?

BTW, her boat 'Guppy' is a Hurley 800 similar to this
