4 years ago I travelled from the West Coast of Scotland around the naughty bit and into the Moray Firth on a Moody, I was just the "helping hand" my skipper was the boss with 40 yrs"before the mast". It was a lovely evening (just like tonight) and we tied up for the night at Whitehills (now a Marina that is only entered into in the RED sector at night,) should be fun for our contiental friends!
I was given the job of preparping the "Pink Gin/s" ,after a couple of 50%+50% with Agnostura the journey seemed uneventfull UNTILL.
It was nearly high water when a "Plummy" certainly not Scotish accent drifted into our revery. "I say you chaps you cant fly that flag". Now we were flyng a Blue Ensign with a small propellor in the corner as we usually do.
"
"Whats wrong then squire (says the skipper with his worst Eastenders accent)".
Plummy voice. "Its a retired Naval Officers priviledge to fly this ensign and I know because I am a retired Naval Captain".
My skipper reverting to usual parlance, "The suns over the yard arm would you like to come aboard for a drink,---extends his hand---"LT. Commander K. *******. Fleet Arm R N Retired. Talk about wind being taken out of sails this was a beautie.
Mike
Any more flag stories would br appreciated.
