A thread a few weeks ago asked about crud on props. Three seasons ago the revs on my engine dropped along with the top speed. It turned out to be a build-up of crustaceans on the Brunton prop, like a small brick on each blade. Bruntons recommended lanolin, so the next two seasons I tried Propshield, applied by method 2 which is heating the lanolin in hot water before applying. I didn't fancy heating up the prop itself.
Since then the prop has remained clean. I've just taken the boat out after twelve months afloat. There were only about half a dozen limpets or whatever on the prop compared with a whole host on the prop shaft and the bottom of the keel where mud had covered the antifouling.
I'm thinking of putting the Propshield on the shaft as well this year, although I did notice that the bit of the shaft which had caught the antifouling on the boat remained reasonably clean. I had thought of putting antifouling on the prop but Bruntons advised against it.
