Recieved a phone call @ 7.30 this morning from the boat yard where Serenity was having some work done saying that the boat next to her had caught fire during the night and had been destroyed.

Serenity looks to be damaged beyond the point of economical repair.

GUTTED!

Oh no, that's a disaster :(
I'm really sorry to hear that.

Hope nobody was hurt, but the loss of a boat is always a nightmare.

Ooo that's really not good,
I would be properpissedoff.com
Can't believe your calm enough to post on here!!!
Sorry for bad news.

I note she was for sale, so if insured then financially not such a problem for you, but always very sad to see a nice boat ruined

Very sad day indeed, know the yard well, was she in the quarry or at one of the resident engineers workshops?, no reports so far.

Any evidence of foul play?, makes you wonder with a depressed market, foul weather and no end to the gloom for the foreseeable future, only positive thing to emerge from such a disaster is there are no casualties.

Guess she will no longer be for sale, lets hope the insurance get sorted quickly and you find a replacement soon (summers been a washout so far so your in no way missing out).

Hope all goes well.:(

Get yourself a "Chartered Loss Assessor" The Insurance Company will appoint a Chartered Loss Adjuster to minimise your claim. Without going into details they have saved me quite a lot of money. With your boat being damaged "as a consequence" of the boat next to it being on fire you should be able to claim for things which would not normally be covered under your own policy, like personal possessions, I am not saying that like a car accident you can hire another boat while you are waiting to be paid out but you need to get a Professional to deal with your claim and their charges are minimal.
(Worth every penny) (you could always ask the RYA if they know of any)
PS and you should not have to pay an excess

Sad news mate.....:(

What is the extent of the damage and have they identified the cause of the fire?

Not much in local news, this is where I saw it:- http://www.thisissouthdevon.co.uk/Galmpton-boat-severely-damaged/story-16477917-detail/story.html

A friend is having his boat lifted there tomorrow, so I'll see if there are any updates on Friday. Difficult access to Galmpton through the lanes for Fire Brigade, so lucky it wasn't worse in terms of spread - I'm guessing the yard would be relatively quiet at this time of year so perhaps that helped?

Sorry to hear your news, i hope your insurers don't drag there heels in paying out, the nicest part will be going shopping again, some bargains out there.

Many thanks to everyone for the kind words.

The staff @ MDL have been fantastic, a special thanks to Rob for the support and updates.

Hope the insurance is settled quickly so SWMBO & I can move on and look for another boat, anyone have a spare 50K they can lend me? lol

Sorry to hear this. Must be shocking to see your boat in such a condition. Hope things move on for you quickly - time for the insurers to prove their worth. Will be interesting to hear how they perform in due course. Best wishes,
Andrew
