A bit self indulgent, but we all love our boats, especially hen new to us.

Well, our new toy arrived at Chertsey Meads on 8/6 and we arrived a day later.

The trusty crew soon had her looking a bit better. No slime, crud or colonies of mussels.

We spent Sunday 10/6 scraping the hull, the crew went home that evening leaving me to soldier on. My birthday present to me on 11/6 was to prime the area to be antifouled.

Jedi looks rather better clean and antifouled.

Of course, I should have Polyprepped the topsides before antifouling but hey, what's another coat between friends? The issues with poor water flow seem to have been related to mussel growth over the intakes. This is tickover just after startup. Smokin':-)

Beleive it or not there was a drain plug between the two anodes. The plug was held in with a corroded screw, I'm glad I didn't try the sea trip. We removed the plug and glassed over the hole. But why fit one on a 32' boat anyway? Old name stickers removed and the area made good.

By Friday afternoon I was totally wasted. Up between 06:00 and 07:00 and working until it got dark each day. Falling into "bad company" on Thursday evening after a couple of beers made Friday very rough indeed. Hull polished, fourth go of teak dressing into the bathing platform (it wants more), antifouling on third coat in some areas and ready to lift back into the water.

A nervewracking experience when you recall that boats can get dropped.

I love this view.

The journey home.

Back to MTYC after possibly the hardest week's boat activity I have ever done. Seems to have been worth it though:-) We spent the weekend showing visitors about and the only work I did was to make the oil show on the dipstick for the S/H gearbox.

My wife's favourite picture so far.

Nice report!!

Brave running an engine when the boats on blocks. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Nice pics Andrew. What a fine looking boat and a nice deepish V hull. AFAIK, the Coronet (32?) has a good reputation as a sea boat. Do you plan to take her out into the Estuary or further?
PS Why did'nt you repaint the red boot top line?

Looks like a Coronet Oceanfarer. Good well made boats.

It's always very satisfying to see the difference after a good clean up, especially below the waterline.

What engines does she have Andrew? And any idea of cruising and max speed?

Funsize, engine was run to check water throughput (an issue raised in the survey) Yard staff were OK with this, checked the chocks and shores first. A full 25l water tub with the yard hose running on full was connected directly to the intercooler water inlet. On tickover the hose just kept pace. A slight revving and the water dropped rapidly. No troubles there. Good thing too as the bolt heads holding the starboard intercooler in place are corroded round blobs of rust. A winter job to get it out. More pressing is the same sides engine water pump, the belt is floppy and the adjustment jockey is under the heat exchanger. A Citroen machanic may be useful, one of those fellows with extra wrists, eyes in his finger tips and finger/thumb grip like a Stilson. For me its heat exchanger off I suspect. Feck.
Deleted User. I didn't do the boot topping because, well SWMBO will be cross if I drop her into it:-) Connected with a time for lifitng (another boat to take our place) and a no show with can of red scrubbable. Didn't like the colour the yard had in stock and ran out of time. We shall be doing our first XChannel later this year, Ramsgate-Dunkerque-Nieuwpoort.
Unit18, you must have private sources of information: I managed to lift my head into freshly painted primer and got a white Mohican which caused much hilarity with the yard staff. The following day I managed something similar with wet a/f which must prove something about me.

Jedi is a 1970 Coronet Oceanfarer 32, 2 x HT6354s. I'll be happy with a cruise of 16-18 and top whack >20. As we usually cruise in company with a boat that manages 8 on a knot of favourable tide that should keep the fuel consumption down. The radome isn't anything more than topweight, no display anywhere or indeed cable from dome as its been clipped off short.. May be available FTGH later but getting it off isn't high priority, unless anyone really wants it.

That's a really encouraging story, and I hope you and the family have a lot of fun and miels in the future.

The yard is really fun - one of the old-fashioned ones, and Chris is dedicated owner.

Nice boat. Nice report. She looks well now. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
Yep those pesky bolts and aluminium bits, know exactly where Your coming from.
The end caps and stuff on all the heat exchanger water cooling and oil cooling bits and bobs need watching.
I've had enough older boats to mend during My boaty career, think I,ve devoped the kinda digits Your refering to!
Well done. Enjoy!

She looks just as good as when I was going to buy her in 1993. She didnt have the Radar arch or the swim platform then. Dont blame you for glassing the bung in--I thought it was pretty odd at the time. Hope you have alot of fun with her--she`s a timeless classic.

Satisfying when it's done though Andrew.

Re. your pic 9 from the underside, I took a buch of teenagers kayaking 15 mile down the Medway and by far the most interesting aspect of the trip was looking up at the hulls, their shapes the flare of the bow and chines. Fasinating stuff.
