On my daily search for boats for sale (until our offer on a local boat is accepted - just waiting) I found this small thing.. Kind of bemused how cheap this is and what has happened to it...

Aussie Broker who sells international boats

http://www.lazaridesyachts.com.au/l.../power-boats/sanlorenzo-82-motor-yacht/186635

I thought the price was a typo.. but they have used the price on listing sites too... unless that is just the delivery fee :)

Steve

Idelness indeed! maybe not a steal then? Surely the engines and gensets are worth nearly that?

really at that price its not a steal? (not that im looking - I couldnt afford to fill / run /store or transport it!)

There surely must be something very badly wrong .. other than the 'bit' of TLC required?

Well, I have no clue of course.
But I wouldn't be surprised if some IT yard would bring her back home, keep her aside for a winter refitting when they are less busy, selling her in time for 2017 summer at half a million Eur.
Which would still be a bargain, for a boat like that in decent conditions!

PS: Actually, I can even think of someone who might be interested to do just that, and I might as well send them an email, unless you are interested yourself... :)

As I said.. I couldnt afford to fill her :)

Also US to Aus is not a short journey compared to US to europe.. so transport I would imagine would be expensive!

I posted on here as I thought a few may be interested, not knowing it was already known - might be a nice syndicate boat too....

Steve

Nope, she wasn't already known - not to me, anyway.
In my previous post I was just assuming that someone might spot her and see a business opportunity.
Fwiw, I just emailed a yard owner who might consider doing just that. I'll report back if he'll decide to give that a try! :)

Go for it P, will make an awesome refurb thread!

Sorry to disappoint you P, but that isn't going to happen.
I recently came across a stunning SL62 which was within my budget, and ruled her out just because S would have pretended to have some crew at that size...
...I don't dare thinking of what she would tell me on an 82!

Nah, the guy I emailed is someone who might be interested to refit her as part of his yard activity, strictly for reselling afterwards.
But if that would materialize, I could ask him to send me some pics to feed a winter refitting thread anyway, we'll see....

PS: as an aside, in a few days I'm going to check out another boat that I'm sure would get your approval, stay tuned (just in case I might register to the FL forum...)! :)

P.,

I find it slightly odd that you prefer a SQ58 (presumably) to your wooden tub. May have more cabins but your f/b is way above the competition (imho) to say 60ft plus and anyway (no offence to owners) I find them rather "busy" designwise from rear quarter views.

good luck on your searches ;)

cheers

V.

ehh mahhh! Unless FL means Falcon :)
Haha, nope, I did mean Fairline.
But I see what you mean, and I don't disagree at all.
There's a Falcon 60 advertised with a reasonable asking price, and in the pics she looks well maintained.
Do you think it's worth going to have a look at her?

Good point, Vas. So much so that, as of today, it could well be that eventually I'll stick to the devil I know.
And it's not a matter of comparing her with a Squaddie, a Ferretti, or whatever.
It's just whether ultimately it makes sense to trade the timber headache for some other kind of troubles, as the bigger engines, potential osmosis risk, etc.

We'll see... In the meantime, the old tub is back in the water, good and ready for another summer (fingers crossed!).
Therefore, the "worst" case, i.e. not finding anything that we like enough to change, actually ain't such a bad case. :)
And we are enjoying the process, anyway. It's also a sort of distraction after a long and demanding (for family reasons) winter...

If you are considering a US import be aware that regardless of year of build you would have to obtain RCD certification, which is particularly unfair for pre-1998 (pre-RCD) boats and potentially impossible to achieve for a boat with older engines that are not compliant with current emission standards, and I daresay numerous other trip wires affecting other equipment aboard..

Nothing like a trade protective barrier to common sense and fairness.

Still might not be a requirement after 23rd June !

Not sure it is what you want. Not ugly and the quality inside feels high, but the lines outside to start feeling the age, unlike for example an SL57.

Not sure that is relevant because I think I am right in saying the boat was built in Italy. Therefore no RCD required.

Slightly off topic, but it all depends where the boat was first put into use.
If it was built, stuck on a ship and then commissioned in the US then it would need an RCD as first use in the EU would be 2016. If however it was fully commissioned by the factory in Italy THEN shipped to the US no RCD is required.

It's a mute point anyway because even if technically it is required who is going to look or expect an RCD on a pre-1998 Italian built boat. There is no searchable record as to its whereabouts since new and anyway, you just say it was in service for one month prior to shipping.
