Now it was a sunny day today up in Lancashire, so we thought we’d have a trip out. Now Tutts wanted to go to a Crap Fair in the grounds of a Stately home. Hmm I thought. Not many boats there. Anyway the crap fair was situated in marquee’s in the field and being as it has rained quite a lot recently it was all muddy, so what a good do. In one door and out the back. Then got a guided tour round the hall. Originally built in 12-0-something. Anyway the bloke that built it was in the Jacobean uprising cos he was a Catholic. Henry the 8 fell out with him and set the house on fire and slung him in Liverpool jail. Anyway then a lot of other things happened till it was bought by a mr. Gillows. Now he lost the plot some where along the way. Went bust and he got locked up too. But then his son who was a ships carpenter, discovered mahogany and brought loads back on the ship. So every one wanted his mahogany furniture and he could pay for food for his father in jail and eventually pay to get him out of jail. A bit like in Monopoly. So then goes on to be the biggest furniture maker in the world, which became Wareing and Gillows.
Bet a lot of you did not know that!
So now deciding, that’s enough of stately homes, set off again to find some boats. And what luck. The tide was in. Now that wont mean a lot to most of you. But we were in Morecambe Bay and the sea only comes in about once a month!! Well round the corner, looking for a sign for Morecambe. There’s a road sign Morecambe to the left and Gibralta to the right. Just thought I’d let you know.
In Morecambe there was two little fishing boats and a jet ski.
Oh and a statue of Morecambe from Morecambe and wise. But not a lot else.
Must get back to the boat more often!! /forums/images/icons/frown.gif

Yes you must get to the boat more often!

I've been out of Poole round to Swanage, today, very pleasant weather, sunny and flat calm sea, almost. Large spring tides whipped it up around headlands a bit.

Big day in Swanage today, first time railway opened up to main line near Wareham, for many years anyway.

Waverly, steam paddle wheel thingy, came alongside pier.

Also folk dancing day, loads of Morris dancers everywhere. OK if you like that sort of thing. Seems a load of bells to me.

Old Chinese proverb 'Man who sail boat into rice field, soon get into paddy'

I was there yesterday. We were supposed to be on our way to weymouth, but the wind on the nose coupled with the springs round the headland made it somewhat lumpy! Boat handled it well though. What made us turn back was a call from the mother in law. She was in weymouth, so I made sure we wasn't!!!!!

OK, to hell with it. Unbolt it and we'll use it as an anchor!

Yep wanted to get to Glaston especialy when extra time was made by the non visit to the crap craft fair. But the tour round the house was quite good. Went to Morecalmbe cos not been there for about 20 years. though been to Glaston quite often. Keep having vage ideas of moving Mucky Farter there for the winters but when I look at all that mud and miles of sand banks. It brings me back to sence again.
