Well much shorter than planned anyway, the destination was not quite as envisaged, so we headed back instead of overnighting.
We did not get the promised sunshine either, the weather was hot, muggy and overcast, but sod it we were going even if it snowed!

The off......Shrek puts a brave face on the weather whilst pointing the bow at a hapless rowing skiff and casually looking at the camera instead.
Not really, the river was empty.

Obligatory wake shot, and for the purists out there, fenders brought in; also for the raggies that lurk in the background - that ensign is sewn, not printed ;)

I like this pic - almost has a painting like quality to it.

Did wonder if they would get their nostrils full of river water when our wash arrived, but they were old hands and lifted their snouts just before it got there. Lovely Gyppo Cobbs.

Arrival at Linton Lock. This showed another of Moondancer's shortcomings as a river boat; the river was low and Moonie lacked the freeboard to be able to safely tie up at the long term moorings. Her fenders were just not high enough to protect her from the concrete pilings, so we had to abort and retire to the short term mooring pontoon.

Moondancer tied up at the short stay pontoon, the only safe mooring point available for her.
We went in search of a lockie to ask if in the circumstances, he would allow us to stay, so long as we moored at the very end.
Never found one, so approached the marina owner instead, who sucked his teeth and bemoaned the fact that an enforcement officer may turn up at any time.
Repaired to the cafe on the lock instead for a spot of lunch. Girl in cafe informed us that they don't do food on a Monday!
The bar looked to have one or two draught ales and a selection of bottled beer, so it looked as if our planned piss up and overnight stay was ill starred on all counts.
Time to cut our losses and head back, luckily we were only about 3 and a half hours upriver. :)

I want this guy's lifestyle! Probably the most idyllic house I ever saw.

First signs of civilisation start to appear.

Bovine Sur Mer. The river looks more like Benidorm every year!

River at York was quiet enough this Monday for SWMBO to remain comfortable taking the helm.
On a busy weekend, just in the visible stretch of river, there will be 10s of private mobos, about 30 of those small red hire boats as in front of us, all full of first timer, pissed up punters without a clue, going in all directions, loads of tour boats and various rowing clubs all out at once.
It can get a bit stressful and I avoid it whenever possible on a weekend.

On a weekend, mobos will often be rafted up 2 deep all along here.

Nearly home, about 20 mins to go and passing the rather grand York Motor Yacht club.

Thanks for posting those pics, always nice to see rivers I've not seen before.
Love the look of the boat outside the yacht club. Do you know what it is?

Nice pics!

Hopefully ill be up there late Sunday finally, got to get out of Portsmouth first though and the weathers looking bad :(

Haven't been on here for months, and it's nice to see some of what we're missing not being on the water yet.

Still, got another outboard coming soon from a friend, then just got to get the interior finished. It's only a 16' dayboat but It'll still be great to actually get her on the water at long last :)

BTW, love the pictures, gives me more incentive to get sorted :D
