I was busy doing a couple of small jobs on board today when there was a hurried knocking on the cabin side, accompanied by a voice saying 'quick, a Seal! Unfortunately I was too late, as a bloke on a jet bike was doing 15knots and scared the seal below the surface, interupting his lunch. Apparently it appeared just below Cobden Bridge with a largish fish and started to eat, submerging at the noise. I have often seen Seals when on the River Dart, but that will be only the second one I have personally heard of on the Itchen in 34 years. Next time I hope that a/ I am a bit quicker and b/.the camera is handy. What wildlife have you seen today?

Seals aren't uncommon on theEast Coast and we occaisionally see one on the Broads (southern rivers, usually the Yare). On one memorable occaisionally we saw a porpoise or harbour dolphin between Gt. Yarmouth and Lowestoft. Only the once though!

A baby wild rabbit about 6 or 7 weeks old. I am no where near the sea at the moment, or the Somerset levels!

I've never seen a seal in the Itchen, so unlike everyone else, I was interested to hear your news!

Oh, and we've got a hedgehog living in our garage..

Yes well it at least means the river is reasonably clean now, regardless, I will be pleased to actually get to to see one myself at some point. I am a bit worried about Wonky seeing a Mountain Lion, I should stick to your hedgehog if possible, next door's moggy is one thing, but mountain Lions better in the mountains.
