Just been reading a webiste showing Yachts and Mobo's damaged and destroyed after a storm in the States. Which prompts a sad question in my mind.
Without trying to upset any owners to which this has happened, but is there such a thing in the Uk as "Yacht Graveyards"or "Yacht breaker". What happens to a boat when its been condemmed after an accident, reached he end of its life or some such thing.
When I wanted bits and pieces for my old Jag car there were websites where I could get virtually any 2nd hand/refurbed items I needed. Is there such a thing for yachts or is this "the great auction house in th sky i.e E-bay".

Yank sites, not much good for us in the UK? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Re: A sad and emotive question

Isn't it sad when people do not read a post?

You ask a question but everyone jumps in and answers the question they think you asked, but not the one you did ask.

The answer to your question is that some boatyards do break up boats that are knackered and they do sell off the bits they can salvage. There have been some posts on the fora about chandlers who sell off s/h stuff. Try a search mate. Good luck.

Re: A sad and emotive question

You only pay vat on your purchase price not the new cost plus import duty at 1.75%, done it twice.

'Foulkes' Chandlery Barge' at Bursledon Bridge, in the Upper Hamble, has been a source of lots of bits - some new, some recycled - over many years.

I have a loft half-full of Lewmar, Rutgerson and Harken Big Boat gear ( note ot self - must get another boat! ) which I found there, and couldn't live without.

Not much help to someone on The Clyde, I regret.....
