So down at Woolston today not seeing any boat other than tugs and a couple of crazy raggies venturing out :D Then while loading out near the waterside opposite ocean village i watched a raggie come from the itchen bridge using the boats engine, they got to the jettie (not sure what its there for, but it gets rough at that point) and he stopped.

Ah, they have seen the conditions and bottled out me thinks, then i thought he would know what the conditions would be like:confused: back to Ocean Village he comes and puts up the front flappy bit (spinnaker?)

Ah thinks me again, conditions were a bit rough to get the flappy bits up, they will do it in calmer water then head out....nope, he heads all the way back down river.

So im thinking swmbo got to that point and said 'your avin a larf, take me home now' and he complied, or he didnt check the weather and got to the rough stuff and thought fook that, but said to her 'way to choppy for you my delicate flower, ill take you home'

Either that or they forgot the flask of cocoa:confused:

Which way was the wind blowing? Because the fact that he used the Genoa for returning suggests that the wind was against him coming out - hence the engine (especially if the tide was also against him).

So the key information needed to answer your question is wind & tide directions, any special reason why you ignored them?

not sure of the wind direction today, it normally blows down river as a prevailing wind, today it was oppisite direction but against the tide. so he had the wind but not the tide and unde engine power was moving at around 6 knotts which is the limit there.

The reason i ignored them was because i was on land working like i said in my post:rolleyes: Whenever i am out if a see any boat stopped for no apparent reason i close in and check for a thumbs up, i may be a soft git, but i would rather cancel my day out and tow someone all the way back to their mariner than them have to endure the stress of breaking down and panicking...i have been there once, and no doubt it will happen again one day.

Sounds like a normal sort of pootle ...

Want to get out on the boat, only have a short while ... motor into the wind then sail back ... we do this sometimes - normally of an evening, but more likely if the weather is a little inclement and we're not going anywhere.
