Tomorrow, (Saturday), Im going to trial the Doral 330. The weather is forecast similar today, winds force 4 or 5. Trial is at Dartmouth. Would this give me a fair indication of what the boat is like? Should I wait until winds ease a little?
Is there anything I should particularly try/do whilst at sea?

No, try it in bad weather because a/ it will show how good the boat really is (any boat will behave well in calm sunny summer days) and b/ if you like the boat when the conditions are inclement, likely as not, you'll love it come the summer.

Well the forcast on here says up to maybe F7 today dropping to 4/5 latter. E or NE. I'd get an accurate forcast in the morning. Depending how much North there is in the wind, it might be a bit protected round Dartmouth, so maybe better to go further out. Try the boat in all directions. Does it perform well in a following sea. Or is it trying to broach all the time. Give it a miss if it does. It's not fun bashing into a F5, but the boat should cope with it. See what its like with the sea on the beam.

Yes, definitely try it. If the agent is not keen on taking you out then perhaps he's got something to hide. It is often quite lumpy just outside Dartmouth so it could be a good test in an E'ly if the tide is ebbing. If it is too flat persuade them to take you to Haydns fav. spot, Start Point (only 20 mins. away). That will be fun if the wind is N.E'ly and if the tide is running up Channel. Enjoy yourself and as Hlb says try it in all directions in relation to the waves.

I live in Kingswear and you will find the conditions testing enough if this Easterly keeps up, where is the boat exactly?

All very sound advice, However i bought my boat in Dartmouth!!! and it was blowing a gale, so couldn't really put it through the paces,has been a very sorry and expensive exercise since.

?? why sorry and expensive? Putting a boat through paces in rough weather surely better than flat calm?

By the sound of it he wasn't allowed to put it through its paces so ended up with a problem child. Doral agent based in Totnes so it is possible this test is on their demonstration boat so nowhere near as ancient as GF's boat.
