For the last year and a half, every time we have filled up with Diesel at our marina they have had to list this down with the owners name, boat name and amount of diesel taken
This has been done for C&E who I am told do come out and inspect monthly
Does this happen in all marinas !

ian

Some fuel stations do fill in forms. Others dont. I have never heard of C&E inspecting boats. Why should they, it is perfectly legal. In my experience it is big fuel depots that want forms filled in, barges also if they do alot of comercial sales.

Most is about assurance of fuel quality.

They even give you some in a bottle.

The rest is just some form of red tape that marinas interprit as best they can. Some go over the top, others dont.

I think you will find this is to check that sales of red do not go for road use.
You can buy red at some roadside outlets... But you have to be registered at the garage and how much you buy is logged

Cheers Haydn
They say is is to do with making sure the fuel gets used in the correct places where is is legal,
Recon that any illegal roads uses caught with it get there vehicle crushed, not sure of the truth of that
Just thought that now C & E now have a list of how much diesel each boater in the marina uses

still know a garage where i buy red diesal no forms to fill ,
and no limit also cheaper than marina, but a pain filling the boat

They do this for unleaded too, not just diesel ..... probably to keep a check on how much fuel is left in their tanks so they can order more before they run out /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You'll also occassionally see the little blue HMRC fuel testing van set up in marina car parks - though I've never seen this actually testing fuel samples from customer vehicles.

Maybe it's just an empty van and they park it up to remind boaters of their obligations.

Down here the fuel barge where we bunker has been filling in that form for at least two years. Both commercial and leisure boats use the bunker barge.
C&E have asked one or two 'semi commercial" boats for some token proof that the boats are being used for fishing /towing etc.
The owner of the bunkering company will only supply you fuel at commercial rates if he is 101% sure you will not get him into any trouble with customs.
Keep all my receipts on board as proof that have paid the correct rate for fuel.

I got some from a fuel depot in Oxfordshire to top up my tank in the winter (running the heater) while the boat was in the garden. No problem but wanted the car's reg no.

I have to get my diesel from the local garage.. red from a pump round the corner.... then transfer it into the boat by jerry can. no probs at all... and about 50 p p l. though there is a large fuel tank and pump on the end of the pier.. Thye will NOT sell us any... all for the fishie boys......So it seems I will just have to carry on as before...IF the garage keeps that tank... On the same stand there is a white diesel nozzle.... Maybe they will just shut the red off......aaargh!!!!
Drew.
