What ballpark cost would you consider fair, for stripping and rebuilding the teak deck of an Apreamare 28?

Not directly interested myself, mind. Plastic boats with that much wood all around are the triumph of form over function imho, and I'd rather run than walk away from them.
But a friend of mine is attracted by the way the thing looks, so is considering (against my advice) to buy one.
And among other things, is wondering what the cost of rebuilding the deck can be.
So, I thought to cross check that with this panel, 'cause it's been a while since I had to deal with teak rebuilds - thanks God.
Below a few pics of a sistership which I found on the web, just to give an idea. Essentially, the whole deck is plagued with teak...
...And that's without starting to consider the other varnished bits! :ambivalence:

Thanks in advance for your ideas.

in my experience there are two prices.

1. the bespoke carpenter. The figures are "daft". To give you an idea in Mallorca ( known for it low prices ......!) to replace all decks on Squadron 58 was E50k.

I think ( only think) that is was ballpark E1000 per sq m.

2. to find the own manufacturer ( Watsons in the UK for many boats - I have no idea about this model) and it is about £15k fitted.

I can see why bespoke hand made decks are expensive, and also accept that you will end up with thicker teak, but the price makes it non viable on the vast majority of boats.

Assuming cheap teak veneer ply, the bathing platform cost for my boat was around £1200 for supplying and fitting new teak panels. For the cockpit I think I'd be looking at around £2000 however I think the cockpit teak should be good for another 5 years or so as it's sheltered from the weather for most of the year. I'd hope you'd get change out of £6-7k to replace the whole lot on the Apreamare (assuming the patterns are still available and it's not solid teak planks).

Of course, if it is solid planks then it would be a more expensive job but perhaps the existing teak could be refreshed with a good sanding?

Anyhow, could be worse....

When I was last & the factory/ yard they were using solid planks of teak . I think that reflects in the asking prices . For a brief period around 2004/05 it was bought out by the Ferretti bros , they briefly transferred Itama production. Then the PO as they say in Naples “ made (by then one survivor bros ) an offer he could not refuse “
So bought it back .
I think it’s the only brand Ferretti let go .
The workmen are skilled it’s were I had a bit of work done .

We have paid 1000e/m2 in Castellabate, for replacing the teak on the lower deck, with new 12mm, all included,
I wouldn't recommand that yard,
but believe that this can be a good price indication in Naples region ..

I had it done in Turkey for EUR 480 per sqm for a surface of 13 sqm. It was 10 mm Burma teak (which is known to be the higher quality of teaks) and with very good workmanship.

Thanks folks for your feedbacks.
It looks like anyone interested in teak decks should take the opportunity to see Turkey... :D

@NYboater: was that a wooden built boat, by chance? 14mm sounds way OTT, to just cover a GRP (or steel, alu, whatever) deck...!

@BartW: I can see why you are not so happy with some parts of what they did on BA.
Otoh, I think it's unfair to compare the price of teak laid above a GRP deck with what they had to do on your boat, with her structural wooden deck.
For that job, the price was imho very good indeed. Of course it was possible to get a better quality, but nowhere near that price, methink.
Not that I'm interested to defend the yard, for the records: I have nothing to see with them, as you know.
I'm just saying it as I see it... :)

Here is a link to an old post when I had the teak replaced on my boat.

http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?448950-Dealing-with-a-badly-worn-teak-deck

Here's what was done:

- new teak on bathing platform
- new teak on the side decks
- new teak on the 50% of the cockpit
- rest of the cockpit was sanded as were the steps to side decks

I removed the old deck myself which was a pig of a job.

I don't have the exact square meters at hand but assuming the bathing platform is excluded, I'd guess the floor area isn't far from that of the Appreamare with it's foredeck. I paid ~7000 € (+ VAT) for the above.
