There we were bimbling up past Marchwood carefully avoiding a raggie that was ghosting along when he decided to tack across my bow.

In a mild state of panic I gently changed course to pass astern of the chappy slightly miffed at having to put down my cup of coffee. :(

As we passed he turned back and profusely apologised, giving the excuse that the wind had shifted unexpectedly and hoped he had not caused us any distress.

Not at all we replied as I picked up my, un-spilt, coffee and continued bimbling. :D

What a great weekend for being out on the water.

He didn't even mention my wake, not even once. Gutted I was. Mind you at 4 knots he was probably creating as much as I was

Learning to know how boats and anything else respond to wind and weather is called seamanship, including consideration, which may be a surprise to some mobo's ( but I reckon most motor boaters have vastly improved skills nowadays ) you had eyes, VHF, throttle/s and a steering wheel, it's not like the M4 with cruise control !

To respond directly, this thread was started after a pleasant day when nobody got upset or angry, nobody contravened the colregs, and a pleasant chat was had between a mobo (us) and a raggie. Your response is totally out of context and deliberately antagonistic. Or to put it more concisely, wind it in terwatt  :D

PRV is a well kown antagonistic prat; I have a lot of respect for modern motor boats & their owners and maybe when I retire would fancy something like a Nelson ex pilot boat.

Andy

?

I think he, like I felt that your response to my post was somewhat less that friendly when I was relating a gentle situation in a light hearted tone. But maybe that is not what you meant and we have all misunderstood. ;)

Jokerboat,

I am happy to apologise if I caused offence, I intended only banter.

Some other people are just downright malicious apparently empty souls and just jump on my posts.

I have said here that I have respect for the majority of modern mobo owners, but a little understanding wouldn't go amiss; motor boats are harder to get into marina berths if there's any cross wind, and sailing boats in clear water need to tack.

You are welcome to come for a sail next season.

Andy

Ah banter, fine by me. I'm well known for my love of sailing, sadly don't get much opportunity nowadays but I'm a live and let live sort of chap.
It's too nice a day for confrontation, on here or on the water

I think the thread needs a reset :)

PS I might just take you up on that offer of a sail :)

There we were anchored in 4 metres of Water when all of a sudden the mobo started pulling a tube, can't tell you how miffed we were when they promised to come back the day after......... And give the youngest and myself a ride on the tube. How dare they go home when it's our turn?

P.S: They made a wake, so we had to wait a second or two before we took the next sip of the White wine. Almost ruined the day.

Maybe it's time to deploy the "ignore" option? Only done it once before so it's not as though I'm choosy or owt.
