We are in the process of organising a sail to Rothesay for the Jazz festival May 2007.
We would like accomodation ashore nearby the gigs and would like to book now, hopefully whilst there is still a choice.
Any reccomendations?
First visit to bute during the jazz festival, is it a good weekend?
Any comments appreciated.

Recommend you get in touch with the tourist board (01700 502151) who could advise you on accomodation and sell you festival rover tickets, discounted before the end of March, although they won't be avaialble just yet. Most of the accomodation is pretty accessible, but books up really quickly, best to contact them to see what's available to suit your taste/budget etc. More info via www.butejazz.com. Might see you there!

Been several times and have this year's programme to hand, any questions about programme format, prices, best venues - feel free to PM me.

If you are taking the boat suggest you get there early as the Marina fills up midweek prior to the opening weekend. A few friends go regularly and as long as you enjoy jazz it's the dogs bo****ks

Can't helpwith land based places, but we used to moor in the inner harbour. Only problem was clearing all the chip papers & fag packets out of the cockpit at the start of a cruise!

Still got a picture of the landing stage fron the 1950's on the lounge wall. Happy memories.

The inner harbour is to shallow now for boats of any draft, however if you have a bilge keel and don't mind climbing the metal ladders its OK but tide dependant.
There was talk recently of dredgeing the inner harbour does anybody have any information about this?
Fag packets and fish and chip papers are a thing of the past, but if you are useing the pontoons get there early.
All jazz venues are within easy reachable distance of the harbour.

I sail out of Bute during the summer months and luckily get to stay in my parents flat in Rothesay. Accomodation is plentiful but you are right to book early as the place is full to bursting on Jazz weekend. The Boat House guest house (theboathouse-bute.co.uk) is very good but pricey, The Regent (theregent.co.uk) and Cannon House (cannonhousehotel.co.uk) hotel seem pretty good too, all an easy walk into town (<10mins). If you want to stay on your boat there are loads of visitor moorings in Rothesay Bay operated by Bute Berthing which are about £5 a night. The area is fantastic for sailing with loads of hotels/pubs that have their own visitors moorings to explore (although most of these are on the mainland side). Enjoy the Jazz - it truly is a great weekend, and the weather is usually brilliant.
