If the gods of wind and weather ride with on Saturday, I am re-launching CI to take her back to Porthmadog. Given right conditions, I will take a few piccies and post them here on Sunday. Given great conditions, I will go the long way round St Tudwals Islands and get some more pics.
How is mummys little soldier, that horrid old cold gone yet?
Wot you moaning about this time.Tell you what, will post the histogram if it makes you feel any better. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
Well apart from Boatone again having trouble with his outward and homeward bound directions viz the Meadway, my freezing cold desolate "are we not brave to be out today" pix has been transformed into a Sealine softies quick run out on an balmy August evening.
Erm........... Well, a bit closer on the subject would help. Boatone has probably used an Auto Levels in Photoshop to put a bit of punch into it.
The main problem is that, although you have a lot of wake in the pic which gives an idea of the speed (maybe) the boat is about to leave the pic. There is no room for it to go so it looks as though the shot was snatched just in time.
There is a rule of thumb called the Rule of Thirds (which is based on the Golden Mean - 5/8ths rule) If you disect the pic into thirds, the intersection of the vertical and horizontal lines is a good spot to place the focal point of the pic.
However with a moving subject it always preferable to place it so that it has room to move into the picture space. So in your case, it would have been good towards the bottom right of the pic. Boatone has cropped it to improve the impact, but can't move it back across the frame.
Clear as a bell, eh? Now it looks like the boat's setting off on a voyage.

So your lady wife would never look at that sea and say "hey Fred its perfect for a cruise out lets go" ..........on account of she cant stand it rough then?
I would say hes far from being "soft" hes being "wise" and keeping the family or friends happy. Better that then takeem out and scare the s**t out of em, I know cos I've done that myself...............oh and on a Sealine to.

How dare you, sir!!!!!
AUTO....AUTO......anything marked auto in Photoshop to be avoided like the plague.
Anyway, you're wasting your time trying to teach Fred photographic composition. The man has a sewing kit for gods sake and has some difficulty recognising the difference between an island and a fairway..... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
For speed I sometimes use the Auto button in Levels to see what P/S will do. Now and then it's acceptable. It normally over-saturates and lifts the contrast to unacceptable levels.
