A new thread ?

I must be getting stronger, or maybe the previous owner had weakened it, but whilst nipping up the bleed screw after changing my fuel filters I bust the thread.
Not of course on the external thread on the bleed screw which would be cheap and easy to replace, but the internal thread in the body of the bracket that holds the fine fuel filter.
Do any of the liquid metal type products work well enough to make a new thread?
Or is there some other solution ?
The bleed screw is already large (takes a 19mm spanner) so I do not think tapping a new thread is practical even if I could get an even larger bleed screw.

I would suggest you need to have it helicoiled. Is the housing aluminium? This may account for your 'increase in strenght' <grin>. You will of course need to take if off, and undue all the pipes etc. as it will want to be spotless for reassembly.

I worked for 16 years on internal and external grinders, for a firm making large turbochargers. All the Ally castings were helicoiled for strength. So done properly it should be better than new.

tom52 if you have difficulty finding someone to helicoil it for you (previous post is correct in all respects) try a decent motorcycle dealers workshop. They use them quite often due to the smallish threads used on bikes and have the experience to do it right.
Good luck

mmm, Maybe its a moody s31 thing, as I buggered my fuel filter housing removing one of the screws (or rather the yard did) - bought a new one - about 50 quid (ouch!) from Volvo

Dont know what engine or filter type but I would not mess about trying to repair it, just buy a new one, they cant be that expensive, if a repair of such a component fails whilst at sea your in trouble. Some repairs are false economy & just not worth the risk.
