Well for us anyway...

8.4 knots sog under the foresail, in a 9.5 meter awb!

:D

Excellent!

Well its a 9.5 meter boat.... So at hull speed....

Hmmm, hull speed is relative to the water, not the ground - we were clocking over 9 kts SOG down the Barrow Deep last week - admittedly under engine, not sail - in a sub-10m boat. Speed over water was showing 6.5 kts.

Ok, no taxman... And about 1.5 knots tide... So i figure i had us maxed out and under control for a good hour and a half, which is pretty good for us!

And it was wind overtide!

Could have been worse, you might have been walking round the grounds of Bolton Abbey, trying to look interested! ;)

It's also worth pointing out that "hull speed" is not a speed limit - for most boats it is a relatively meaningless concept.

Please dont spoil my pleasure at seeing things on my plotter never seen before!

:D

At least not seen whilst under control anyways...

Your "hull speed" is probably around 8 knots anyway, so if you had 1.5 following tide, you still had a way to go anyway!

Boooooo! :p

Actually i think its 7.1 according to a formulla i saw...

I think the previous fastest sog i have seen was around 7.5...

We managed 11.5Kts surfing down a wave in a Sunsail Sunrise 34', about half the jib out. It was more usual to see 6 or 7 Kts that day though. No tide.

Our Centaur touched 7.1Kts for an instant in a gust yesterday, never seen that before. Weather helm was getting a bit out of hand, it was very ballanced with the reef in before that. :)
