I was on holiday last week and for part of the time was staying in a cottage in Sweden that was converted out of one end of a barn. The upper floor was the typical sort of in-the-roof arrangement, with a store cupboard at the back, and through the cupboard a way through to the barn's loft as a fire escape. Of course I couldn't resist a peak and I opened the door to be faced with a shelf bearing a pair of navigation lights: genuinely old oil burners that would have looked absolutely great on Chal. Heaven knows how long they'd been there, they were certainly dusty.
I couldn't help feeling that if they happened to fall accidentally into my luggage it would be years, if ever, before anyone noticed, and that I'd actually be saving them from eventually just rusting away. However, honesty (and maybe my luggage allowance) got the better of me, and I left them.
Sigh!
