A message to Raymarine - Don\'t forget your base market

Where can I get a stand-alone radar? Whatever happened to the excellent RL72 I once had ? Why am I being persuaded to get a three times as expensive display containing things I don't want? I've already got two plotters, a Garmin 172C and a Yeoman, I don't want a third. I don't want a fish finder display. I don't want my GPS position shown on yet another screen. So come on Raymarine, sell me another RL72C Plus that just shows radar. Don't forget your base market.

Isn't time you were in bed at your age! I have an excuse 'cos I'm on night shift. And I can't help you with your radar either...but I do agree.

I agree, I love my SL72.

I spent a day at LIBS and the Raymarine was in my opinion the superior stand alone radar on the market. Not long after I bought I was talking to another forumite about why I thought this and he also decided to go with raymarine. He struggled to find one as they discontinued the model soon after, it's build run was very short.

Maybe RM decided they could not compete in this market and as it seems they are determined to force us all toward a glass cockpit that they no longer see saily boats as their bread and butter. The guys buying power tend to spend far more on 'toys', maybe because they don't have as much maintenance to pay for without the big sticks and flappy bits; And sailors tend to be really, really tight!

I don't see the Furuno or the JMC as viable alternatives to the RM units, I went to LIBS determined to like the Furuno, but it just felt cheap and dated compared to RM.

Shame.
