Subtitled -the forgotten histories of the Thames Estuary.
This girl knows about boats so none of that frustrating stuff by a non- sailor. Her parents built a boat in South Africa and sailed it to St Kats. She was born here and lived on the Medway doing much sailing.
She follows the Thames for source to the Estuary, the latter part by sail from Limehouse to Sheppey. It has lots of interesting stuff but always light touch and well researched. She sees and writes tenderly of the beauty she sees in the dullest scenery of our muddy puddle. A book to read in bits, short escapes from the now particularly.
I wished it wouldn't end.
I recommend it to the house

Still in a Leigh on Sea literary mode; just finished Gotty & the Guv'nor (again), then Gotty in Furrin' Parts (really enjoyed that one), now onto Swin Swale & Swatchway (for the umpteenth time) and then will read it's followup The Last Cruise of the Teal but only the non fantasy first half. Interesting several real Leigh on Sea characters are mentioned in these books.
