A little question about Moorings

Compulsory advance booking would be a bad thing. It would (understandably) encourage people to make multiple bookings 'just in case' and the result would be chaos.


However, it seems to work in the US where hardly anyone seems to turn up at a marina unannounced.


As others have pointed out, none of this is a problem if you appreciate the joys of anchoring.

I have found this thread astonishing. I sail mainly on the West Coast of Scotland, where although more yacht facilities are appearing, most boats are happy to rely on their own anchors.

I also prefer to anchor much of the time - I didn't mention it because the thread was about booking ahead so anchoring obviously wasn't relevant.
