To quote gjgm"I do not suggest I speak for any others who use the forum, but I would like to return to a boat forum where people can discuss boating with respect for each other, and to enjoy the forum. Oh, I dare say some think this is all jolly amusing, and perhaps it is for those few. But maybe I could ask some members to consider for a moment the others who may wish to have a forum for its intended purpose. "

Wise words, those of you who want to bitch-fight, moan about one another and coat each others boats off can proceed to the car park forum. I'm setting it up as a private forum and it's just for fighting each other away from the people who don't care. Please email me at keith_walker@ipcmedia.com and I'll add your names to the list of people who can read/ participate in it.

Ah thats no fair. When theres a fight in the playground you need 200 baying kids to give it the atmosphere. What fun would having a fight behind the gym 2 hours before school starts achieve.
I mean, lets face it, the Tuc shop banter will all be speculative and not wildly over exaggerated won't it.
So, who have you got standing outside the Headmasters door at the moment?
.......must go the bell for first period has just rung.

Nah, thought about it, then opened a bottle of wine and err.. well the rest was very pleasant but didn't involve much boat moving /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

We'll have to do it another time.

" TCM! of everyone here, you with your intelligence know better than to make fun of ggm... "

betcha got mostly A's & 'could try harder' on the reports.

actually...

i am being carpeted by the blimmin kids' headmaster this very afternoon. Apparently son#1 got some detentions for talking in the library and oh, very serious, and BOTH parents have got to come in for ritual humiliation. The HM will deny it's ritual humiliation, so I'll say it must be because he can't quite handle things, which isn't much kop reallly bearing mind the blimmin school fees. Not much of a shining impressive example of man-management if big massive meeting needed for someone talking in the library really is it? And after all the pupose of leadership is to produce more leaders - not produce more followers, and he'll say wel that's you opinion and I'll say well no, it's a quote by Ralph Nader. And anyway the dets aren't for anything serious either, really, so it seems to be rather a proof of the fact that recent-acquired or unsure authority is weilded with extreme strictness and severity, and he'll say huh wel that's you opinion Mr Tcm, and i'll say no, it's the opinion of Aeschylus, innit, but very appropriate, and at that point the other teachers will be in deep do-do. Then i'll tellem to swap the form tutor. The other option is that HM loses his rag, and i'll say careful matey, don't mistake me for xxx pupil who you lost your rag with a couple of days ago, you oughta control yourself really.

Or of course, it might be a nice chat with biscuits and no nastiness, we'll see.

Re: actually...

Well known tactic at my old place when the chapel needed a new roof or one of the cooks had to be buried - dets rose sharply, parents called in for chat, brought chequebooks, contribution accepted, incidents forgotten, dry chapel or dampish ex-cook the result.

Oh that really is side splitingly funny, TCM. Had I sent my comments to the moderators, you might have a valid accusation. My comments were addressed to all forum members who care to read them. As it happens, it would seem I am not alone in thinking that some people seem less interested in adding anything constructive and more excited about airing petty and snide jibes perhaps under the belief that they are really being most clever and amusing. I was suggesting that its a shame for the forum that people cannot put the same energy into something positive and about boating for a change.
(This type of comment usually leads to TCM starting some even more sarcastic thread supposedly about boating, but crudely directed whoever dared repost)

sorry

Okay, fair enough. I hadn't realised that arguments were seen so badly by others, sorry. It didn't seem overly snidey from my point of view and since there is "form" between some posters and also other forumites having met (and therefore insults aren't meant at all, they're just for effect qv scottish lot) i suppose things do get out of hand. I'll try to do better.

And therefore - Hah! - your prediction was totally wrong about my next post. Hee hee.

gigm, I think you'll find there are a number of people here who completely support your view. I came back into boating last year having had twenty years in another sport, aviation.
Naïvely, I thought this board would be similar to ones there, where you can discuss, question and learn from others. Disagreement of course but still respect for opinions and views from people on the subject you are discussing without threads being hijacked. To some people, whose life seemed to revolve around the forum, this level of discussion was not "lively" enough. So they had a forum, similar to The Lounge, where they could berate each other to their hearts content. Firm moderation appeared to be the key. The forum content was well defined and anything off-topic or insulting was sent off to "the other place" straight away.

Re: actually...

he's prob after money for a multi-meedja library, where talking will actually be encouraged, along with telly & music on very loud (hm - that sounds more like the local Jim's Gym )

Patting tcm jr affectionately on the head , he'll smile disarmingly & say how little tcm was the inspiration for this great idea & have another biscuit, & more tea Mrs tcm? & what a shame that dropping attendance means less money for wonderful ideas like this..... & Oh! Mrs tcm - if you and other boys mothers could do any fund-raising, then... and Mrs t looks at you and Bother!

better make sure it's an argument really, you know where you are then.

Tell 'em winston churchill always talked in libraries & it didn't do him any harm, but Adolf was a strict library silence enforcer etc - that should do for starters.

hm, but arethe dullard taking over?

of course, there shouldn't be outright nastiness, imho.

Many threads have useful boaty info buit then "go funny" (or someone ideas of funny)_ and removing all such threads except the serious fact-producing ones isn't a great idea for all forums, imho

I note also that the complainers are those who have posted very modest numbers of posts, and treat the forums as some sort of free info service rather than anything truly interactive - these "takers" of course don't much bother with personalities, just the free info, ta.

Other forums are noticeable by the tumbleweed blwoing down the high street, days go by with hardly a post.

The carpark should be canned, imho. This wasn't a serious problem. The moderators seem to want to design a forum that is self-moderating -all the posts will be in the right place , the fights in the car park and so on. But converstaions aren't like that - *espaecially* with dateslip where a post can start with info, but develop into a grinding mudsling qv the coasguard thread.

Good God man! We left Primary School many years ago.
Even the WI are doing nude calendars these days.
I've search on Google for an Anal Rententive Forum, but not having any look.

Just chill out and read Classic and PBO forums where the kind of issues you are wanting get aired. Funnily enough you'll find the same people on there, but just discussing different things.
That's what makes a rounded society.

Re: actually...

True? I've no idea... but nor will the hm.

fwiw I ( maybe others?) did notify Keith, so all teacher's pet/whiny voices cracks & complaints happily accepted here.

I just thought it a bit too pointedly anti-G, while not esp funny, if at all. + target not 'big mates' with the poster, so all friendly really. praps doubly so given recent history.

eg , it's prob OK if I say I'm now awaiting the irate Northern bed n breakfast magnate carping on about free speech in primary schools & have you seen this titilating photo of a dolly-bird with a 'free speech' t-shirt? cuz even if it's not funny, the target likes a joke & won't be offended ( ducks)
