I think the only hope for the poor specimen who 'created' the original post (apart from signing-up to see my SWMBO who is a shrink and would be prepared to see him on a pro bono basis) would be for him (probably is a him) to put his hands up and confess that he has made a hideous error of judgment as we all do some times. Trying to be clever or funny normally requires that one uses one's brain rather than turning it off?

It is easy to see why the moderator acted swiftly to save the guy being buried under the results of his own ineptitude rather than just pulling it and being accused of heavy-handed censorship. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

But apart from that, many on here are very nasty to mobo's . Even though, it's mostly, mobo's that rescue them. Drag them off sand banks, or take a tow off them, to safely moor it in harbour. The times I've pulled a raggy out of a tight mooring, is unbelievable. Or invited on on board for drinks.

Mobo's make wash. Raggies just get in the way and require loads of course changes, just to get from A to B. It's life and each to there own. Many of us have done a bit of both.

I was disappointed by the response. What is the point of lining up to hurl abuse at someone ?

I looked at it and ignored it. Whether the post was intended as troll or not, I think that would have been the best response all round.

It's easy to make jokes about a photo, but I can't imagine anyone sitting in their cockpit pointing and laughing on the scene.

I suspect Keen_ed was joking, and had he been there, he would have done what he could to help.

I thought the posts were a bit harsh and vitriolic you would have thought he was cheering 3 superyachts full of children going up in flames from the responses he got.

I suppose this is forum 'norming' in action. Post in haste and stranger will jump in and declare you a 'cock' or a 'twat'. Very easy behind the anonimity of a login name and with the distance of a keyboard. It amazes me the things people consider acceptable behaviour which they wouldn't dream of doing in person. I reckon Dan should have a yellow card, red card system with cards lapsing afterso many posts, should keep things from getting out of hand and also stop forum bullying

My response was a little more cautionary, but I dont disagree with others who were more graphic in their assessment of his behavior.

What might be good now would be for ED to post an apology, that is if he feels any remorse.

For some of us, Drannie, now the kids have flown the nest, the boat itself is effectively our baby ... the pain couldn't be the same of course but it would still be dreadful. Perhaps that's a bit sad? But I like your card idea, great, hope it's been noted.

Funnily enough I saw that pic elsewhere and was going to link it here as something to think about. Especially to the chap a while ago who said he wouldn't bother taking a liferaft on an atlantic circuit because his boat was an unsinkable etap.

Be warned, it may not sink but it'll sure as hell burn.

Very good point, whilst its not me doing an Atlantic circuit, as an Etap owner I have changed my mind over this. I always felt that to inflate the dinghy would see us OK in case of fire. Last summer we did a timed dry run.

The end result is that, purely in case of fire, Galadriel will be getting fitted out with a basic life raft this year.

To extract the inflatable from the cockpit locker, get it to the foredeck and inflate it took far to long, and that did not account for the fact that in the case of a fire, the smoke could be blowing our way.

What have I missed?

Probably nothing,
considering the mentality of some of the morons, ("TROLLS"?), who think they are incredibly amusing,
who are an apparently long standing clique,
sadly spoiling and abusing an otherwise, generally interesting forum.
Bill.
