I am currently reading a book called "Rivers of London" by Ben Aaronovitch.
It is a little like Neverwhere (Ian Gaiman) meets Harry Potter and the X-Files.
The hero is a young PC who is at the end of his probationary period when he sees a ghost. He is then assigned to a DCI who is in charge of investigating supernatural crimes, and is himself a wizard. The PC finds himself on a steep learning curve as the wizard's apprentice.
The action is set in London and along the Thames. (Locations on the Thames so far include Richmond, Teddington, Penton Hook/Chertsey and the source of the Thames).
