Just spent the evening playing with the ship simulator at Plymouth University.
Driving a VLCC through the Dover Straits, Berthing a ferry, taking a lifeboat out to find a casualty in fog and blasting up the Tamar at 35 knots (and not a harbour patrol in sight!)
The main simulator had 180° vision with giant screens supplemented with linked radar and chart plotter and felt as if it was moving when tight turns and big seas made the whole display pitch and tilt. I almost fell over when some prat threw the helm hard over at 30 knots - and all in a normal room, no moving parts!
