A/fouling paint reaction. Arghh!

Hi All,
I'm sure I am not the first to put antifouling paint over the top of 'normal' gloss, only to find that the AF paint reacts (badly) with the previously applied paint and it all goes crinkly! I guess that you would say strip off and start again, but are there any other options?
Is there an Anti fouling paint that is compatible with oil based enamels? or
Is there a barrier paint that will keep the two apart?

All suggestions gratefully received! The boat is an 18ft double ender which is coming towards the end of a 6 month rebuild. The AF is 'Nautical' general purpose antifouling and the rest of the finish is 'normal' primer(s) /undercoat(s) / gloss(es!)
Incidentally I notice that its only lifted the gloss coat, reprime & undercoat maybe?

Hoping to catch some time in the water before the summers end.
regards,
Stu Knowles

I has not happened to me (yet!) and being an idle toad I commonly paint the topsides, not bothering with masking tape on the w/l. then put the tape on the gloss and paint a/f up to it.

I suggest primer, then a coat of Underwater Undercoat, then a/f.

It is recommended that you use a bonding primer between paint and antifouling. I used Skipper's Solver Primer a couple of years ago which seems to have worked well with an eroding antifouling, but most paint ranges have the equivalent.

Hi All,
Thanks for the suggestions so far, I'll certainly check out the 'Skippers' lead. I take it that there are no compatible A/fouling paints. i.e that they all attack enamels?

just can't bear the thought of stripping it all off so I think that its going to go back into the water without AF for the time being. I'll let the paint thoroughly harden off and then try the barrier method. Bit of a set back in a long line of set backs but I will get there in the end (self motivational statement)
thanks
