At the risk of boring everyone with more pics of the lakes, I decided to post a few as we had a great weekend onboard.

After a rather dodgy latter part of August, the warm and settled weather returned for the last weekend. We had left the boat to Lappeenranta with MapisM & S on the previous weekend, so we now drove her to Puumala, some 40 miles north. We then decided to stay overnight in one of the nearby islands called Rokansaari.

Towards the evening the sky cleared and what little wind there had been, died completely. The quietness was such that closing the transom gate seemed a racket and was echoed back from the woods.

These pics are best viewed in the dark…

In the morning we woke up to this

Whilst walking on the beach I heard a fog horn from a cargo ship passing behind a couple of islands.

A little while later, these guys appeared from the fog. In rather exited tones they told me how they nearly hit a cargo ship… go figure… A story I heard repeated quite a few times on the pontoon during the morning.

Half an hour later the fog had lifted and a fishing competition was about to begin.

We then had a very pleasant stroll in the woods.

The sauna we used the day before

We the headed back to Puumala on the Sunday afternoon. I came across this, does anyone recognise the make or model. No prizes for guessing what the shead in the cockpit is for :)

I only wish the weather had been as kind to us on our delivery trip with P & S.

No worries K, as much as we are indeed used to warmer and more stable weather, we were never restricted in any manner by weather conditions, and we could always do what we had planned, also during the week we spent in Helsinki before catching up. So, we don't complain at all.
It does happen also in the Med that you can't go at sea due to strong wind, or at least that you choose not to, because it wouldn't be a pleasure.
And quite often, your destination is somewhat restricted by wind direction.
This never happened during our cruise, and surely a few brief showers didn't spoil the experience at all.
...in a sense it's rather the opposite - we would have been more surprised by constant glorious weather, if you see what I mean! :)

Re. the boat, I'm pretty sure that she's an Island Gipsy 44 Sundeck.
TBH, I don't think I would have built a sauna on her cockpit, but now I can definitely see why they did! :D

I'm going to include in my "index" thread on Finland criusing also this report of yours.
Many thanks for posting, yet again, some beautiful images.
Your night piccies are more and more convincing me that I must buy a camera good enough for such very low light conditions!

Loved the photos SM, especially the star pictures with the lights out, nice work!

The fishing boats leaving the jetty, travelling out the buoyed channel had their engines tilted up, obviously seriously shallow water. How did you cope with your draft, being on shafts?

Did you recognise the marque by the crossed flag badge/insignia below the 44?
No, actually I didn't recall that it was the I.G. logo. I guess it is, since you mention it?
I did notice the 44 though, and on top of that the look reminded me of either Trader or I.G.
A quick google eventually sorted the doubt! :)
