HI All,

I would be really grateful for some help here,

as some may know from previous threads I am looking at getting a replacement sprayhood for our Konsort and also to have a cockpit enclosure.

I have spoken to CJ marine a few times now and they have been really helpful, their prices are also a lot more reasonable than other companies that I have contacted.

My main requirement is that I want the sprayhood & enclosure to be tight, I find creases and baggy windows extremely irritating especially when trying to see through them. (maybe I am being OTT)

CJ marine have sent us a couple of pictures of work they have done on Konsorts but they are not very clear and dont really show the sprayhood only the enclosure.

They have told us that although they supply people everywhere they have done the most amount of work in Chichester as this is where they are based.

Im wondering if there is anyone on here who owns a Konsort that has had covers made by CJ or whether someone maybe knows someone with a Konsort that has had work done and wouldnt mind you taking some pics??

I would be extremely grateful if someone could help me on this.

As I said, CJ's work in general looks good and their prices are brilliant. It would just be nice to see what the work they have done to Konsorts looks like before I order.

Many Thanks and I hope this doesnt sound out of order.

Ian.

when you have a new hood made have a look @ "Stratoglas" for the windows
it isnt cheap but its thicker than the normal stuff & more importantly stays clear. Oysters have it fitted to their hoods & the Stratoglas is heated with a hot air gun after the hood is fitted, this tightens the windows.
i have it fitted into my hood now 5 seasons at least & still as new

C J Marine is a very good and professional organisation. They will make a good looking job. I had our Spayhood made by them - perfect.

I regret not having our bimini made by them, but I took a cheaper option - big mistake.... By the way, there is a certain organisation which professes to make sprayhoods etc for Westerlies - that was the mistake I made - Just don't be tempted.....

Our new C&J sprayhood is waiting to be picked up - it is replacing the old one which, although it is still in one piece has clearly not been looked after well so is green and would need a complete re-stich and reproof (nearly as much £ as a new hood!) ... Our Cockpit tent is also made by them - both fit very well (but that is on a Bav) ...

Can I assume a Konsort is a standard design? If so, you can be sure they have good templates and will do a good job for you. Bavs are not quite as standard as you would expect ... yet they still manage!

We have a spray hood made by C&J, last year we had a cockpit enclosure added. We had a C&J spray hood on our previous boat. I would thoroughly recommend them as a supplier, even if they proved to be a little more than other, but as you say they are competitive.

It does not really matter what boat you want the spray hood made for, if you tell them what you want you will get it.

IMHO one of the best in the Chichester area. Our sprayhood is made by them and is first class. I have seen several hood and cockpit tent combinations made by them and they are all well designed and fit well. I would recomend you get them to fit it for you to get the best fit.

to throw a spanner into the works ..... have you had a quote from quay sails.... i spend a day looking at the boat show last year not really bothered about price but more bothered about quality of product. quay sails came up trumps on both !

I saw a sailmaker from my yard fitting a new spray hood on a boat a couple of years ago.
Interestingly he fitted the hood and pulled everything tight without putting in the windows. He left it like that for a couple of weeks to allow the fabric to stretch as much as he thought it would tightening here and there each day.
He then marked up and fitted the windows with the hood material still in place under the window material and refitted for another couple of weeks.
He then did some readjustments and finally cut out the hood fabric from around the windows.

We had our Westerley's (Kestrel) sprayhood and full tent made by Tecsew. They were snug and the makers very efficient. Sadly now we have traded up and have no tent on new boat but it is very much missed for the outdoor breakfasts at this time of year. Definately worth looking at Tecsew:), never found a crinkle on ours.

Thank you for all the replies,

I have not once heard a bad word for CJ.

To be honest I wouldn't hesitate if I knew that they could fit it but as the boat is in Neyland, Pembrokeshire I dont know whether they would do it.

There is a Bavaria 32 close to us in the marina and the cover was just perfect, it was tensioned perfectly, when I had a look it had a CJ badge on it.

However, the Konsort does have awkward access and I was wondering if the CJ sprayhood is a correct height to help with the access, I know there has to be a happy medium, if its to high it may look out of place.

I assume the Konsort is a standard design.

I was just wondering if anyone has seen a Konsort with CJ work??

Many Thanks
Ian

I don't think they'd need to actually fit it - and doubt it would be viable for them to do it at that distance anyway. A friend with the same class of boat as myself ordered a sprayhood based on the template made for mine, had it delivered to Northern Ireland, fitted it himself and is delighted with the result. I'm another with nothing but praise for C&J.
