A/F on saildrive

I have a new saildrive which has to be antifouled (with Trilux). What preparation is needed before the a/f is applied? I suppose I need Primocon, but does the leg need sanding or any other treatment?

If your new leg is bare metal then 6 coats of primocon followed by 3 coats of trilux.
Four on the leading edges.
The tin says that should last 18 months before needing more Trilux.

do not use any abrasive on the saildrive leg it will damage the coating Mr volvo so carefully applied.

I am having a new engine and saildrive fitted as well. The advice I got from Motortech at Port Solent was to use a Scotchbright pad to just give the surface some key. I would imagine a coat of primocon and a couple of coats of Trilux would then sufice.

I'd agree.... i normally just wet'n'dry... primacon then trilux or is it MPX can never remember they changed the name a few years back

Why?

It's aluminium. To be fair you will need to abrade very slightly and would suggest something like 800 grade wet and dry wet sand with a little tiny bit of detergent, the Scotchbrite idea might be OK but its coarseness is difficult to define.

Thanks for advice. Light abrading plus Primocon/Trilux looks like the way.
