Does anyone know of someone, preferably on the East Coast who runs a course in how to use fibreglass ?

This looks like the site where Jaguar Yachts were moulded. I went there about seven year's ago to buy resin, glass matt etc. Yachts had finished by then but they were moulding , toy battleships, all sorts.

They were enormously helpful. I bought everything I needed to do a complex ( for me) number of jobs in both epoxy and polyester. Not only were the prices very good but I got top quality info on how best to tackle them.

Looks a great day out for the wintertime.

Thats right, and the early Spring 25's amongst others

Alan,

You could come and learn about the wonders of fibreglass with me. I have a bulkhead to replace and some stress cracks to repair. As well as a few other jobs.

You will also learn about electrics, woodwork, coffee making, engine servicing, using an angle grinder in confined spaces, rat killing, working in sub zero temperatures, mickey taking, first aid and beer!

The course is free!! Buy your own lunch at the pub.

Are you NVQ qualified or in the colloquial (Not Very Qualified) Insured with £23.000,000 third party cover, Inspected by the Council, Checked by the Police, Have your own hard hat, steel capped boots, and Hi Vis Vest.. PLUS Have we been formally introduced as my Mum told me not to talk to strange men on the internet.

I'm dissapointed I see your reply was intended for CPD not me... Norman No Mates again !

Norman/Alan,

You are correct on may counts; yes I'm NVQ and yes CPD was the intended recipient.

However, I would be grateful if you could avoid any reference to health and safety. It upsets the natives and leads to all sorts of awkward questions.

Despite modern ideas, you must not underestimate the learning power of getting your fingers dragged into a belt sander or operating a bandsaw by feel.

You can tell an experienced boat builder by his lack of...... parts.

Who needs a poncy course in Southend? You'll probably get home without a single injury of any kind. For wimps IMHO.

This is wot u want. http://www.cybglassfibre.co.uk/glass-fibre-moulding-workshops.asp

Sorry schoolboy error - didn't read all the posts. Would confirm what others have said though. They are good guys.

They used to make Jaguar and Prout yachts. They confirm the madness that is trying to make money out of boat building in the uk and they never want to see another boat again!

They are great with fibreglass and can supply anything you want in terms of materials.

Its just a general thing really. I am happy doing most stuff on boats, but have never ever got stuck into working with fibreglass. PD is well, fear not /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif !
