Free from Gutenberg - a good read IMO.

Interesting account of the development of steam navigation on the Great Lakes, especially the service from Toronto to the Niagara river. Cut-throat competition between rival companies, steamers being cut in two to get through locks etc.

Illustrated.

The good thing about the Gutenberg project is that you get to read all kinds of intersting books that you would never know existed, let alone buy them.
