especially this >He praised the lock-keeper who he said had given help along with bacon sandwiches and cups of tea.>

Boils down to safety

and what the British once stood for

as opposed to this age of accountants running the country and the EA with political correctness gone mad.

Once the cottages are gone forever then what would happened with an incident like this ? the mind boggles.

So nothing to do with a boater not keeping an eye on things and closing the sluices as soon as they realised something was wrong then?

Not sure there would even have been a resident lock-keeper anyway....sounds like some more skewed reporting to me.

Anyway 'twasn't EA waters let alone the Thames (so the powers-that-be would say not relevant). It was BW, Worcester & Birmingham canal (from the description) who have no lock-keepers as such, but there call out crews (who are very efficient, it is said).

That would play into the hands of EA on the basis that their call-out team would do similar.

Better keep schtum on this one...

Thick twat. Locks don't exactly drain that fast do they?

Those ones do drain fast but they are also easy to stop and refill if things are going wrong . I recomend a trip up the Wey navigation just to see how easy working a lock like that is ....... Thats if they allow Birchwoods on the Wey /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

In fairness, the boat looks not far off filling the locks length, so by the time one could expect him to reasonably notice, it was probably a bit late. Not like, I guess, he could have chucked it full astern and pulled it off.

Regardless, it's pretty funny. I hope it doesn't put them off in future.

I use locks. I would notice as soon as it snagged. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
