Laurance Le Guay (a well known photographer globally) sailed in that race in the early 70s(?) on one of the legs of a circumnavigation. He later wrote a book called "Sailing Free" about the circumnavigation which I have probably read half a dozen times. I think the race is held every second year. Maybe I should be an entrant for the 2016 race!! (I suppose getting an experienced crew would be a problem)
