Came down to Penarth on Wednesday evening, and returned late Saturday afternoon. Bl**dy cold!

Virtually no wind either way, but with a ripping spring tide I was doing 11.5 kn SOG on half revs. Lovely sunset yesterday, and no other yachts out (jobsy must be abroad /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif )

(The trial fit of the new stern arch went well BTW /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif )

Looks like a nice day out.

Is there any debris (logs etc.) out there at the moment? I'm wondering abaout going out one night this week if there's any moonlight and it would be nice to know what the risk is.

There is a fair bit of debris - tree branches etc come down with the heavy rain and spring tides - but it seems to be concentrated in well-defined streams at the edges of the main channels.

The nights are very bright, cloud permitting, and personally I wouldn't be too worried about going out.

Went for a trip upto Portishead from Cardiff on a mates boat in November at night, i was expecting pitch black but after we got away from the bright lights and our eyes grew used to the dark we could see quite a lot, in fact our boat cast a faint shadow from the glow from the land and when the moon came out it was even better visability,we didnt see any floating debris.

We went sailing in Portishead Pool last night and it was fine: nice and calm, no debris. We went quite well when the breeze picked up (it was between 0 and 17 knots and varied in direction through about 90 degrees). Portishead Pool seems to be pretty well lit by all the working lights in Portbury Dock and Avonmouth. There's a nice orange glow which lets you see what's happening on the sea surface.
