Anyone else in Newtown/Yarmouth area on Saturday evening?

We had lots of fun in Newtown watching people tryng to re-anchor a dozen times before giving up and leaving.

I saw 40kts on my wind instrument.

Yes, and in mid afternoon. Anchored in south Deep and went from flat calm to 20 knots. Thankfully at home when the evening thunderstorms came. Lightening lit up the whole of sky over the harbour and eastwards. I live 3 miles inland and high up with a view over the harbour.

I was on board on my new trot mooring on the Hamble (Warash side opposite HYS). Once I was happy that the mooring was going to hold, I sat back and enjoyed the show.

Was anchored in Lulworth Sat night, gusty but nowhere near as windy as the Solent by the sounds of it. Luckily no real sea built up or we'd have had to leave the shelter of all those massive MOD antennae :ambivalence:

We were in South Deep too and stayed overnight. A couple of heavy showers but no strong winds. Impressive light show at bedtime but it all seemed to be a long way away.
The fog bank West of the IOW on the way home was much more of a problem.

Long shot - but where you motor sailing then unfurled the jib near Christchurch ledge having headed a bit further offshore?

If so we were just to windward of you

No we sailed all the way. Even in the fog we still had 12 to 16 knots of wind and had to partly reef the genoa when approaching the Shingles to improve the view forward and to reduce speed.
