Well it is exactly a year since i first registered on here. And what a year it been.
I've seen a lot of comings and going, a lot of Advice, good and bad, And alot of humour flying about.
Some how ( I don't know how!) i've accumulated 940 post, I hope a few of them may have been some use to someone, but i think most of then would have been questions. I AM new to this game/sport/pastime/hobby, whatever you want too call it. And i would like too thank EVERYONE for all the advice you have given me over the last year.
I have learnt a Hell of a lot about boats and sailing from the posts on here, and i think the forum should be commended for that.
So far i have only met 2 people off the forum (Martynwhiteley &Nordic Ranger), But hopefully over the next few month i'll meet a lot more.. I have made a lot of friends on here, and possible a couple of enemies.
I may get slated sometimes for asking stupid questions, like recently " what does a GPS actually do?" But i think i got some very good answer.

So i'm sorry for this boring post, but i wanted to thank everyone & YB&M for this great place (And a broken path, Sshh).

Keep up the good work everyone.

Cheers

Alistair..

Very nice to hear Alistair and I feel exactly the same about the forum - OK there are one or two a*seholes who seem to get pleasure from taking the p*ss unkindly, but the majority of forumites seem to be really nice genuine guys - have met three fellow ..ites from my marina and really good company.

The piss taking is not usually 'unkind'. Don't forget many forumites have met up and know each other in real life over the years. Come along to any of the many meets next year, and you'll get to know the real life presonalities, and some of the piss taking will make more sense

Can only echo this post and it is fair to say that this forum has changed our boating lives and therefore our lives in a very positive way.

Joanne and I have been privaledged to meet many forum members and often their spouses and this has helped us have an amazing baoting and social year.

I nolonger get quite so embaressed when I say to non boat freinds " I meet people from the internet" although Joanne usually hides at this point.

Again many thanks to many

Nick

How fitting was that. I got My Club Burgee Yesterday. Right on The 1st anniversary.
Good timing Haydn.
Talking of Timing, I just noticed i posted this thread on the exact time as i registered last year./forums/images/icons/cool.gif

I must also say that it looks very good quality and well made as well.
But i'm not quite sure how to tie the looped string. But i have 3 month b/4 the start of the season to work it out.

Thanks Again Haydn.

Alistair.

the reason the string is in a loop. Is so you can cut it. Usually with a short bit at the top and longer at the bottom.

Hey look..noone is up for a wind-up more than me - I totally recognize that loads of the guys know each other well and I think I can recognize when they're having a laugh. I look forward to meeting as many forumites as I can over the weeks/months ahead so I can join in! I have though had just a small number of messages (probably only two or three) which haven't come from regulars, but which have been bordering on offensive - I'm certainly not over sensitive - anyway, I've ignored them and indeed note that the ID of one of the culprits has recently been removed by Kim.

Cut it !!! - Cut it !!!

Now you tell me - spent ages with the knot book working out if I should do a rolling hitch or a prussic knot - in the gave up and moved the cleat on the flag staff to fit the loop - /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Tis true what Alistair says about the forum - great place to meet people and to learn. Made a huge difference to my boating....... even got aquainted with a few escorts over the summer !!!!!!

Course. The other thing you can do with the loop, is have a hoisting and lowering ceremony at day break and in the evening. Even leave at half mast if the boat breaks down,,.../forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

The recent one was someone known to Kim, and was just out to cause as much trouble as possible. You also get a few idiots who register just long enough to cause offence, but they're soon kicked off

I'm not looking for sympathy.

But when it comes to the safety of my wife, and anyone else on board my boat, I take it VERY seriously.
