Well, my introduction kind of turned into a progress blog but will make one here so it's easier to be followed.

As you will know if you read my intro, I bought the boat knowing nothing about it/boats all together. I have lived on this forum since, learning lots along the way so hoping it will turn into something pretty special!

When I got it home, no trailer, engine or anything. Literally just the boat itself.

After a quick pressure wash to see what I had got myself into I realised what a winner I was onto, no major damage, clean hull and lots of fun to come..

First job and the big one was the bodywork! It had been brush painted with hammerite multiple times in different shades of blue!

A few pics showing the sanding..

After a few nights it was killing me seeing the inside in such a state... So I spent a night on the inside..

Before..

After..

As you can see in the above pic.. The top half is darker blue which is the original gel coat. The lower shade of blue is the last layer of hammer****e. It took 2 nights to get from the above picture to this...

I could probably have got away with just flatting back the old paint and going over it but I didn't want to take any chances of reactions hence I went the whole way back.

The time had come to get the paint on.. I decided I wanted to go a very light almost baby blue colour.. Few days later I was left with this..

After these pictures were taking I obviously finished the bits that were unpainted in these shots..

Today was the day, time to flat it all back and polish...

That didn't happen! I decided I didn't like it all blue! Now, what I'm going to do is leave the part behind the windshield blue, a few other blue details and have the rest bright white..

Out come the power tools..

Was in the garden sanding from about 9am through to about an hour ago! Dedication right there ;)

Wearing old joggers but forgot to attach the dust hose to the sander so my bottoms took one for the team..

Nearly done..

After a quick wipe down and keeping it wet so it looks nice and shiny.. Gives you an idea of what I want.. The light blue. Bits stay.. The dark blue gel coat is going white..

That's as far as I got today body wise.

Engine..

After weeks of searching for a 15-20hp engine.. I managed to find a Yamaha 28hp 2 stroke engine. Guy bought it new years back and hardly used it as he bought a smoother 4 stroke so it sat around until now..
I'm picking that up when he is back from holiday, will service it up, paint it too match and get new badges for it. It should FLY!

That's about as far as I have got at the moment as the paint is taking so long!

Comments, advice or criticism welcome.

All the best, Jamie

Great job, and very dedicated of you. It takes real determination to change tack halfway through. Well done. I reckon she will look grand with the new colours and engine strapped on the back. Good for you.

Thanks a lot Rafiki. I'm getting real excited about getting her on the water now. But don't want too rush it though. Should have first coat of white on her tommorow :)

Will do :)

You mean the video's of the 9fts with about 4 inches of the boat in the water and the rest in the air? Lol

Been doing a lot of painting today, I am using the roll and tip method. I do spray though but decided against it for the boat. I have a devilbiss gti pro gun, various dryers and use works compressor.

Few pics from today... Done the first coat this morning.. Once dry applied the second.. This paint is amazing, such a nice finish already and I do not even have full coverage! Still see blue in places and the shine is lovely. Few more coats and a wet sand, machine polish and it should be like glass!

Left side on 2 coats, right side before second coat..

After 2 coats only, no wet sand, no polish or anything. The orange peel will simply wet sand away leaving a glass like finish after a few more coats..

At the moment so do I to be honest! (don't tell the girlfriend, she is sick of it as it is as I'm out there too much!) ha. But I'm hoping with the masking tape of and the other blue accents it will look great :)

Great job, I'm sure she'll be worth the effort. But where are you going to fit the heads, galley and sleeping accommodation? :-)
Do you know what engine size the transom is rated for?

Behind the seat, it's like a Mary Poppings bag down there! :D

I was told on purchase it's rated to 40hp but more knowledgable people have advised me no more than 30. So 28 it Is

Thanks for the compliments. I think before I go much further I am going to remove the tape so I can see how it looks before I put much more paint on!

Hold that thought...

Before you look at the image, picture it with the black bump strip back on, a new windshield, a new and less hideous steering wheel and possibly blue pin striping details...

Also, the paint will be like glass once finished and a lot brighter (still not on 100% coverage)
