936millibars Recorded Today Lowest Pressure Since 1886

It is confirmed - the value of 936.8hPa (millibars) recorded at Stornoway at 13h00 today (Christmas Eve 2013) is the the lowest value measured anywhere in the British Isles (Britain and Ireland) since 1886. It beats the previous value of 937.6hPa recorded on 20 December 1982, also recorded in Stornoway.

Pressure dropped 22 millibars in 8 hours yesterday afternoon here in Stornoway.

On radio 5 live yesterday they were discussing the weather and the BBC weatherman had said that out in the Atlantic the pressure had dropped 60 millibars in a 24 hour period. That can be quite windy.
