The week long 50th Shannon Rally finished this bank holiday monday.

150 vessel participating with over 600 crew. And quite a logistics operation as the entire fleet moves every 2 days to a new harbour!

Thanks for the post OF, another huge gathering.

Is it a matter of 'aft cabins are the go' in Ireland, they do appear to dominate the lough-scape :) in a very nice way of course!

Yes Andie, a) they suit the climate, b) pound for foot they give excellent indoor accomodaton and c) they fit under bridges. In recent years there are some more seafairyprincess FBs about and many many sports cruisers, but grp marques like Broom, Haines, Birchwood, Linseen and other dutch steel makes seem to dominate the landscape on the inland sea loughs. There's quite a few aft cabin princesses and sealines about and even a few of the rare but much sought after Fairline 43AC's :)

Most brand new builds though have been Broom as many FB designs in the last decade are just too high to fit under the gate into the 102ft lock at Ardnacrusha hydro electric dam. This is the only way to access the tidal shannon and amazing south west coast. Was chatting to a chap on the marina recently who had just moved his lovely P42 onto lough Derg by road, but didn't reaslise he was land locked. Yesterday I met a family on board an amazing Linssen Sturdy 50, all electric HT roof and arch for going under the two low bridges on the 270km of the inland Shannon. The newer Brooms have electric arches that pull the canopies down like the little merc CLKs for going under low bridges so no blasted fiddling with studs, clips and frameworks and on sunny days you have an effective open FB!

Next boat perhaps? ;)

Must admit I've always been keen on the aft cabin configeration in sub - 50', no lap - lap on fwd. chines at night, and if you have a snorer on board, you can get some distance away from them.

ralf2...good family fun. That's a great turn out for such a long time event.
