50% off a subscription to MBY for one day only!

The link worked for me and i just ordered at the £28.99 price. I'm pissed off though. To get the £28.99 deal you have to pay by DD, not by cr or Dr card. I thought that seemed strange, becuase it is just a single payment. When I got to the end of the process I realised that I have been duped into paying IPC £28.99 per annum, so they can just renew my subscription each year without me doing anything and collect the money. That's fine, if that's what you want to buy, but i didn't and don't. I'll stand corrected if I was being a bit careless and didn't notice a clear sign saying "you are signing up for an everlasting subscription and we'll just take the money every year" but I don't think there was any such clear sign. I'll just cancel the DD as soon as IPC have taken the £28.99, prolly tomorrow, so nothing lost, but it's not great behaviour on IPC's part imho

I'm afraid this is becoming standard business behaviour these days, unless you are extremely switched on someone somewhere will have you over. Could be why smallish but honest businesses are beginning to turn the tables.

Hmm, guess you're right. Doesn't make it any less bad manners though. I just processed another order right up until the point of no return and so far as i can see there is no message telling you you're signing up for an evergreen subscription. Sure it might be there if you drill down into Ts and Cs but that doesn't excuse the behaviour imho

Here's a screenshot of the main page that made me think I was doing a one-year deal (Duration = 12 issues, it says)

Thanks Stewart!

An update - firstly the link is puzzling those who put it together and they are working on it now.

Secondly the Ireland issue has always been that it is outside Europe and coupled with the Irish postal service, although I am awaiting for an update from our subscription department to see if this is still the case.

And finally the ipad issue....its not possible to try before you buy (hard to believe I know) this is a copy policy (as in our parent one, Time Warner) and is to do with security and copyright issues...BUT at present we use Zinio for our digital magazines and they can be found in the app store where you can try some other publications not published by IPC to give you a look and feel.

Or if you are at the London Boat Show we will have them on display there for you to use.

I will update when I have further answers and agreed its pretty daft having a 24 hour offer when it only seems so to work for some people.

We will however honour this for anyone that has tried and failed to subscribe.

Cheers

Thanks Richard. But, Err, Ireland outside of Europe??? [EDIT] cross post just saw your correction. But, postage to Ireland does not cost €35 more than UK. Ireland speakadaenglish too :) Unlike ze Germans und Le Frencies.

What a shocker, I can only apologise. Our subs team are getting furious emails from all of us here. It would appear that there are two versions of the page out there.

They've been sent the the link to this thread, so will see your comments for themselves.

Hi Stewart

Jack's original link still not working for me, but your one is now - so I've subscribed.

Cheers
Jimmy

As soon as I saw it was pay by d/d then I knew I'd be having to cancel next yrs sub. Better that than giving a credit card mandate which you cannot cancel.

Well, it'd be fair to say that didn't go entirely according to plan. Thanks for all your comments - they'll be fed back to the team that puts these things together. And thanks to those of you who subscribed.

ONE DAY ONLY...arrrhhh missed this yesterday....:mad:

but, good news, offer still works!!!:):)

So, taken out new sub today and as per everyone else I dare say, will be cancelling DD in a couple of days.. thanks for the saving IPC, but come on, accept CC or DC not just DD!... shady practice indeed.

Hi Richard
Any update from subs depth on the Ireland problem?
Thanks
Noel

Hi

I am afraid there is nothing else to report, the bar rate (price) is considered Europe and therefore comes under that band, add to that the cost of post and that's why its more expensive.

I am afraid its an issue we have had certainly in the 12 years I have been here and is always a difficult conversation to have on the stand at the show where the only suggestion I can give is that its cheaper to buy it in the store.

I am sorry I cant help any more.

Cheers

Thanks for feedback.

Pity as least line of resistance to an English speaking market on an island that's effectively part of the UK marine leisure market.
