I am looking for a 3/4" 45-degree male to male 316 elbow. So far no success on google. Does anyone know if these exist and from where? Failing that a male to female would be ok although not ideal.

I'm sorry, I didn't realise it was impolite to ask the question, and still don't understand why it might be impolite.

I suppose if someone has gone to the trouble to respond to my post it seems churlish to dismiss their good intentions with a reply that their effors have been wasted... that's all.

Do you mind me asking why you're looking for 316 rather than the more normal Bronze or DZR? I could point you in the way of the latter quite easily, although you've probably already found some suppliers of those yourself.

Otherwise if Google etc. can't find anything you might need to look for a stainless steel fabricator.

The fitting is required for an existing seacock which is 316 stainless...I'm assuming best not to mix metals?!

Is the skin fitting 316 as well? Rather unusual as 316 is not commonly used for yachts. Most common is either bronze or DZR brass. However there should not be a problem with bronze or DZR fittings onto a 316 body.

Yes the through hull fittings and seacock were replaced a few years ago in Germany by the previous owner and I think they favour 316 over there. Thanks for the heads up on using bronze or DZR I'm not a mettalurgist so usually try to avoid mixing metals.

Vyv Cox is the recognised metals expert on the forum, but I don't think mixing 316 and Bronze/DZR is a good idea.

My boat was German built and as far as I can distinguish the original fittings from the work of POs they used Bronze.

I've now got into the habit of replacing a skin fitting with all gubbins attached at the same time. It means I know what every bit in the ones I've replaced is, or at least I've documented what the vendors said it was.

316 and bronze are close on the galvanic scale and in the application suggested where they are not immersed in seawater there is unlikely to be a problem.

However, like you I would prefer to replace all the fittings. Not keen on 316 because of the potential for crevice corrosion in the threads of the valve body.

Don't think it is a German "thing", more likely a personal preference of the person who fitted the replacement valve. The boat would originally had bronze or possibly DZR.

No offense would have been taken, my fault for not paying proper attention.

Is this what you are looking for

All the skin fittings and seawater ball valves on my boat are 316 and have been constantly in use in sub tropical water for 9 years now and no signs of any corrosion.
