40mm exhaust to 50mm outlet?

For a number of reasons I have a Beta engine with 40mm outlet on the exhaust but I have 50mm exhaust components.

Can anyone see any problem with exiting the engine in 40mm hose, and swapping at the waterlock to 50mm hose for the rest of the "trip"?

The alternative of course is to get a new exhaust outlet for the Beta, not sure what would be best course of action!

No problem with that.

I too have a beta engine which was set up like this. It did not present any problems that I was aware of. When the exhaust bend wore out the whole lot was changed to 50mm.
