Im torn between a 40Ft flybridge and a 40Ft open sports (360 and V40) for my next boat purchase which is imminent, does anyone know of a company that do a bareboat for 2 days on a 40 Ft flybridge. Its just the steering position really, im used to standing up in mine ,dont know how id be sitting down on a flybridge, being 6Ft 4 i find the position on some fly`s a bit cramped, need to live With one for a couple of days.

We do charters but not yet bareboat. Sealine F36 Fly & Fairline 50 fly

If you skipper chartered you'd be welcome to stay on the boat for your accomodation

I dont think you'll find any boats that size for bareboat charter in the UK although you'll find dozens for skippered charter. The only place I know that you'll get that size of boat on a bareboat basis is the Balearics. Look at the classified ads in the back of MBY or do a web search. It'll cost, mind, probably £1500 a day

Ian:
You are right, in a flybridge you need to sit while underway, the "gunwhale" height on a flybridge isn't very high and the ergonomics are set up for sitting. When mooring/berthing however it is good to stand because you get excellent view, much better than sportscruiser in fact.

For charter, you could try vitesse in palma. They have several 40footers. They will prefer to charter for a week than a few days, but it's not yet high season so they might help. I have used them, excellent. But £2 or 2.5 grand for a weekend, minimum

Alternatively I'd be happy to provide a free day sailing, in Golfe Juan, SofF on a 42 foot fairline phantom flybridge. You'd be most welcome to drive and practise berthing etc to your heart's content. Subject to agreeing a date, and possibly coincide with day when tcm is down there for improved beer drinking potential - the tcms are in next marina from us, 5 mins along the coast. Dunno if SofF is your patch or not. Getting down there is easy, Luton easyjet to Nice, and quite nice weather. Tcm can provide references as to the set up down there, though he will of course tell you that Golfe Juan is a slum compared to Vauban in Antibes, but he's just spoofing the market to increase Vauban real estate prices for the greater good of mankind :)

I would go for a flybridge everytime !

I love being up top but when things get ruff or its a bit wet, It is so nice to be down below and let the wiper take the spray !

In my boat you sit up top but tend to stand down below !

Even on really hot days we perfer to be down below, the best time to be on top is in some marinas you get privacy up on top with the bimini up !

You are welcome to use my boat any time allthough a bit old and slow !

Well that is vair kind, jfm! Cept that it will costim a fortune on account of having to buy bigger boat and stay in the med once his swmbo etc find out about the med and cheap flights.

For UK, i would start off looking at f'bridge cos it is warmer inside. For sofF i wd start looking at sports. Then I wd dither a lot, as sports is easier for leaving helm and helping with lines. But flybridge has more space for given length. But sports has a bigger single area for a massive party and more matey when driving along.. hence he neeeds a looksee i spose..

GJ is more purpose-built than antibes, and tends to attract new money. Whereas Antibes is older and bigger. Anyway, I understand that there is an article coming out in a forthcoming ish of MBY all about antibes, which should put the record straight, ahem.

Golfe Juan calumny

Dont tellin that. Anyway, I dispute. Med boating is actually an earner. You buy a boat and a berth, and the capital gain on the berth (taxed in UK at 10%, I believe) massively oustrips all boat costs including maintenance, fuel, depreciation, and such like, even extravagent trips to the chandlers. OK you have to pay for it in the meantime, but longterm you get all your spons back. If you are lucky you even make an extra 15% on the Euro, halleluja! And ian lives right by Luton Airport so can be there in a jiffy!

All comments sports v flybridge are agreed, but he just wants to try out.

Golfe Juan = new money. Hmmm. Praps. Time for the furniture test.....I admit, I did buy all my own furniture, dang :) . I look forward to MBY article and shall withdraw my allegation about spoofing the market, if appropriate :)
