We decided to renew several split pins on the standing rigging. We measured what was in (at around 3mm) and bought the only ones we could find at the chandlers....3.2x50mm
They wouldnt go in but a 3mm drill bit did.
Are there true metric and imperial sizes in use still ( the turnbuckles are new).
Where is it advised to go for some 3mm ones?
I also need a 12mm reverse thread nut!! one seems to have been missing from the forestay for years ( according to an old photo) we were trying to work out if the fitting could come loose with only the top nut on as we thought that the wire would have to twist in one direction only to do this ( but a nut would give comfort).
So a one stop shop for pins, reverse thread nuts , oh and siezing wire!??
Any suggestions please?

Sea-Screw: http://www.seascrew.com/

A2A4: http://www.a2a4.com/

but I usually get what I need over the counter at Seateach in Emsworth. Items loose not pre-packaged a you so often find.

You do have to be alert with these metric/Imperial equivalents. Pop-rivets sizes are another time you can come unstuck if not careful

Not sure about the left hand threaded nut. Might have to pay through the nose for one from a rigger

Thanks guys,
I can only find 3.2 listed so far. A2 A4 half the price of Sea screw and they did have left hand nuts, and sold singly so beating the ebay Bolt Me Up geezer who I have used before but somehow missed his add.
Thanks again

Its really this issue of metric and imperial; I have seen on packets of hardware 1/8th-3mm and 1/8th 3.2mm ( 3.2mm being the correct equivalent for 1/8th (( I think!))
In Our case we found that the 3.2 we bought was just too big 3mm would be just right but I can't find em and 2.5 too small.

I think you're worrying unduly.
I would use a 2.5mm split pin, or, if you can't bring youself to do that, put a 1/8th in. drill through the hole.

I think you will find that the split pin is 1/8", I think Sta Lok screws use 1/8 but not sure on other makes.

No, there are fittings out there that won't take 3.2mm split pins but require 3.0mm instead. I have some such fittings and am in the same boat as the OP in respect of not being able to find any.

Re 12mm LH thread nut. Do you know it's metric? I know that some Sta-Lok threads are BSF for example. American stuff can be UNC or UNF and so on.
